Palm oil is used in:
*Food items (around 68% of all palm oil is used in foods). Palm oil is used in many processed foods like chocolate, potato chips, cereals, frozen foods, margarine, baked goods (biscuits, cakes and bread), and fruit juice. It can also appear on ingredients lists as 'vegetable oil'.
*Household products (around 27% of all palm oil is used in household products). Palm oil is also widely used in personal care, cosmetic and household products like soaps, toothpastes, shampoos, make up, laundry powders and detergents.
*To a lesser degree, it is also used as a raw material for biofuels (approx 5% of all palm oil is used for biofuels).
