Perak Corp, TNB Sign Deal for EV Charging Station at Casuarina Hotel

Perak Corp Bhd's subsidiary Casuarina Meru Sdn Bhd has signed a leasing agreement with Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) to operate an electric vehicle (EV) charging station at Hotel Casuarina@Meru.

In a joint statement, the hotel and TNB said the agreement represents a significant public-private effort to strengthen the state's low-carbon mobility infrastructure in support of the Perak Sejahtera 2030 vision.

TNB will install a 120-kilowatt (kw) DC fast charger with dual nozzle (CCS2) and two 22 kw AC chargers at the hotel.

"These chargers will be supported by dedicated EV parking bays, 24-hour access and a mobile payment application, offering convenience and efficiency to hotel guests and public EV users," it said.

Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad said with TNB's leadership in clean energy and Casuarina Meru's position as a state-owned flagship hotel, the partnership demonstrates how collaboration across sectors can deliver tangible, measurable results for both environmental and economic resilience.

"This is not merely a symbolic event, but a strong manifestation of the state's commitment to accelerating our transition towards sustainable development," he said.

To date, Perak has set up 149 EV charging bays at 56 locations, reaching nearly 30 per cent of its goal to have 500 charging points by 2025.

The new initiative highlights the government's commitment to expanding EV infrastructure in urban areas, rural regions, eco-tourism sites and commercial zones, helping to build a more inclusive and accessible green transportation network.
