1) Buy good stocks and hold is one. 
2) Looking at charts is one. 

But there's also special situation trades - what I like to call event driven trades. Recent example is [%MBla%] [%PTij%] trade or last year [%AMqV%] trade where you take advantage of mispricing and market inefficiency. 
 
There's also sentiment trading - which is to take advantage of potentially irrational but money making behaviour. Attached are 2 recent examples where you can easily take advantage of FEAR ( [%xbXO%] ) and FOMO ([%LnmJ%] ) in the market. 

All in all, just stay in the market long enough, make many mistakes and learn over time in this journey!
